The decision followed a point of order raised by Senator Chukwuka Utazi (PDP), Enugu North Senatorial district, stating that, Chief Nwodo narrowly escaped being killed.
Utazi stressed that John Nwodo was highly apolitical, noting that it was as a result of that, that he was made to head the Igbo socio-cultural group.
“Mr. President, distinguished Colleagues, I want to bring to the attention of the Senate that on 29th April, 2018, the country home of Chief John Nnia Nwodo at Nkehe was bombed.”
“We were lucky that the Chief was not killed. He is the President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo and he was just doing his job. He was going about doing his job and for anybody to do that job, he must be apolitical which he is”
“We have never experienced such bombing in Enugu.”
“I want to urge the Inspector General of Police and the DSS to investigate the embarrassing situation which Enugu people have found themselves.”
In his remark, the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki asked the committee of Police Affairs to swing into action and revert in two weeks time.
