Mexico set to halt Nigeria juggernaut in Chile

Mexico have set up an epic semi-final clash with Nigeria at the 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup in Chile.
Claudio Zamudio and Bryan Salazar’s goals helped El Tri brush aside Ecuador in the quarter final of the competition on Tuesday night at the Estadio Francisco Sanchez Rumoroso, Coquimbo.
And they will gun for revenge against the high flying Golden Eaglets who dismissed Brazil 3-0 in their own last eight fixture on Monday.

Nigeria silenced Mexico 3-0 in the final of the 2013 edition of the championship hosted by the United Arab Emirates with a first half own goal by Erick Aguirre plus goals from Kelechi Iheanacho and Musa Muhammed in the second half sealing a fourth title for the Africans who had earlier annihilated the Mexicans 6-1 in the group stage.

This year’s semi-final encounter billed for Concepción promises to be mouthwatering as Mario Arteaga’s boys will not only be out on revenge mission, but also aim at winning their third crown after successes at the 2005 and 2013 editions in Peru and home soil respectively.

Just like the Nigerians, the Mexicans are yet to lose any game in Chile but are inferior to the Golden Eaglets in terms of goals scored. While Emmanuel Amuneke’s lads boast of a staggering 17 goals in five games, Arteaga’s side account for just 10 in same number of matches.

Defensively, they look very thick as they have let in just two goals in sharp contrast to Eaglets’ three.
The game holds on Friday morning (12am) at the Estadio Municipal de Concepción with the winner battling for the top prize against Mali or Belgium.
