The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom and his predecessor, Dr.
Gabriel Suswam seem to be embroiled in war of words lately as the later
has accused his successor of being responsible for the petition against
him at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
This is even as Governor Ortom is asking when former Governor Suswam would return the alleged looted funds back to the treasury.
Governor Ortom through his Special Adviser (Media and ICT), Tahav
Agerzua who also debunked allegation that he and some of his aides made
comments on sending Suswam to jail maintained that at no time had any of
his officials mentioned that the Ortom administration had the intention
of sending the former governor to jail.
“It is instructive that no evidence, not even a mention of the fora
at which these officials had spoken of their intention to send Dr.
Suswam to jail was listed in the write-up which at best is as
speculative in this aspect as in all the others.”
In a statement personally signed by former Governor Suswam and made
available to Daily Sun yesterday, he insisted that Governor Ortom had on
a daily basis since assumption of office been devising desperate means
to smear his name before the unsuspecting Benue people.
“Recently, the Governor through his media adviser, Tahav Agerzua,
took a good part of his time dishing out malicious and demeaning
statements on my person in the media. My only crime, as stated in their
statement, was that I accused the state government of been responsible
for the petition against me at the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission (EFCC).”
