Pro-Biafra Protests Rock Owerri

Biafra protests
The protesters who were demanding the release of the Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, comprised members of the Movement for the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

They chanted pro-Biafra songs and war songs while the demonstration lasted, armed security operatives including the police and the army, in trucks, monitored the protesters throughout their procession to forestall breakdown of law and order.
One of the protesters who chose to be anonymous, told Vanguard that their agitation was meant for the federal government to release Kanu and allow Biafra people freedom.
According to him, it was wrong for the federal government to arrest Kanu because he supported and believed in the freedom of Biafra people.

“Kanu did not commit any crime to be arrested by the Nigerian Government and we cannot hold ourselves back in asking for his release even if we die in the process.
“We are in Owerri today and hope to extend this move to other towns within Biafra territory till we achieve our aim,’’ he said.
The demonstrators wore T-Shirts with Biafra inscriptions and flags, while the three major markets in the state – Owerri Main Market, New Market and Owerri Relief Market were closed.

It will be recalled that pro-Biafra supporters has been protesting against Kanu’s detention in Rivers, Anambra, Enugu and Delta states.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian army has warned agitators clamouring for the state of Biafra that the long arm of the law will soon catch up with them.
